Purchased this surge protector so that when my PC turns on, all three monitors and several USB devices turn on at the same time. This does the job!

I use this with my computer workstation and have the computer speakers plugged in as a “slave” to my computer so they power down automatically with the computer. Made of high quality materials, I expect many years… decades of use from this product.

I have just 2 circuits out in the shop, wired for 115, so by the time I access the internet and turn on the coffee maker, then go to microwave/toast my bagel or pastry, I was tripping the breakers. I bought this unit and put the large draw appliances on it, it appears the situation is improved. I have the APC P7GP set to manual.

I received this product as a replacement for my P7T when it failed to protect my TV and gaming console during a lightning storm. After reviewing the faulty product, APC determined that they were not at fault and didn’t reward my claim based on their Equipment Protection Policy. Do not trust that they will compensate you for any damages based on the failure of their product and do not believe the lifetime product warranty.

Beware this product was designed back when computers used a lot more power than current computers. The auto-power feature can’t reliably be activated by newer, lower power systems. I worked with techs at APC and in the end they weren’t able to resolve the issue of my monitor turning off even when the computer was awake and operating.

I bought several of these APC P7GB SurgeArrest Essential 120V 7-Outlet Surge Protector (4′, White) on special because I shoot in open buildings that may not have the best electrical service. I value my equipment and wanted the extra added security of the features this product offers. The energy saving feature is attractive too. I will buy more for home use.

The master doesn’t controlled anything even when you switch the switch.

I have used these APC P7GB surge protectors for many years and really like its main selling feature of having a master and controlled outlets. This feature will automatically turn off peripheral devices like the monitor, external drives, and printers whenever the computer is turned off or goes to sleep. However, it does not work with newer, more energy efficient systems. I have a 2014 MacMini, which draws only about 10W when running and the controlled outlets, into which the monitor is plugged, constantly turn on and off as the power draw increases during processing and drops when not working as hard. So if your system uses enough power this is a great solution for turning off everything by just shutting down the computer, but skip it if you have a newer, energy efficient system.
