Designed with the ability to edit and playback multiple HD video streams, as well as access digital libraries the StudioRAID 20TB 2-Bay Thunderbolt 2 RAID Array (2 x 10TB) from Glyph Technologies is a production-grade external hardware controlled RAID array that connects to your Windows or Mac system using its its two Thunderbolt 2 ports or one USB 3.0 Type-B port at speeds up to 420 MB/s. While one of the Thunderbolt 2 ports is used to connect this RAID to your host system, the other may be used for daisy-chaining additional Thunderbolt-compatible peripherals.
The StudioRAID is equipped with two 3.5″ drive bays and a total capacity of 20TB, which is configured as 2 x 10TB 7200 rpm hard drives. To help facilitate its functionality within a production environment, the StudioRAID comes pre-configured as a RAID 0, which helps enhance performance by spreading data across two drives and is also compatible with RAID 1, which offers data redundancy. For those who do not require a RAID, JBOD and SPAN modes are also supported. This array is powered by an internal international auto-switching power supply that operates at 100-240 VAC at 50/60 Hz, is cooled with an intelligent quiet fan, uses disk health monitoring, and is constructed from an all-metal enclosure. While the StudioRAID comes pre-formatted as HFS+ Journaled for Mac, it may also be used with Windows after a simple reformat. Included is a Thunderbolt 2 cable, USB 3.0 cable, and an IEC power cable. It is protected by hardware, data recovery, and advanced replacement warranties.

I love this drive. As a video editor, this drive has storage for days and is fast enough to keep up with my workflow. Plus, I had a small issue with it and sent it in to get worked on. Glyph was more than helpful and got it back to me within a week. Excellent customer service.

Reliable and does its job. A little pricey but what do you expect for a professional purchase.

This is my second Glyph drive, with Glyph quickly becoming my favorite company for workhorse drives. I run almost all my sample libraries off of this beast, and it’s been wonderful since I got it. It’s fast, it’s surprisingly quiet for the size (I can record excellent takes even with the drive fan running), and for the price, it was cheaper than far less reliable alternatives. I use it with Logic & Pro Tools on a Mac OS 10.14 for reference. The only con for me (albeit it an unreasonable one to list) is the unavoidable spin-up time whenever it falls asleep, but that’s going to happen with literally every HDD. It’s only a few seconds, though, so it hasn’t caused any quick lightning strikes of ideas to get lost in the waiting. Size-wise, it takes up exactly the same amount of desk space as smaller single Glyph drives; the only difference is the height. Right now, my little 3TB drive sits on top of the 12TB RAID and they get along just fine.

I needed a new unit to mirror (RAID1) save my work, and decided to switch over from LaCie for a change. So far I’m very impressed! The unit is well built, solid and the fan’s not too loud. Looks both cool and modern, while also low key. I did call customer support to make sure I was setting up and initializing it properly, and got a person on the phone without too many hassles. He answers my questions and got me sorted quickly. The online manual could have been more helpful, but customer support was easy enough.
