Description
The IOGEAR 2-Port Cable KVM Switch with HDMI comes with two integrated KVM cables, so you can control two devices with HDMI video connections using a single USB keyboard and mouse as well as an HDMI-capable monitor. Each set of cables sports an HDMI, two USB, and two 3.5mm connectors that connect to your computer or game console. The KVM console itself has a single HDMI port, two USB 2.0 ports, and separate 3.5mm headphone/speaker and microphone jacks that connect to your monitor and peripherals.
For visuals, this switch supports resolutions of up to 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz, coming from a compatible graphics card. You can quickly switch between the two systems with a push of a button or using asynchronous hotkey software. It supports DynaSync so that Windows 7 can read and remember the monitor’s video resolution when switching between or booting computers. IOGEAR has designed this switch to work with various operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS X, Sun Solaris, and Linux. Additionally, it is HDCP compliant and firmware upgradeable.

I tried to use this switch to connect an Acer HDMI monitor to a Mac Mini and a 2020 MacBook Pro. It seemed to work fine with the Mac Mini and also with an older MacBook Pro I tried it on, but while it was connected to the newer MacBook the laptop crashed almost every time it went to sleep. I talked to IOGEAR and they agreed it was probably not usable with 2019 – 2020 MacBook Pros. So, I am returning it. If you don’t have a recent MacBook, though, it might work well for you.

Purchases this good quality compact KVM switch and it works great, switches pretty quickly. The KVM’s Remote switch has good cable length so you can hide the KVM switch. WIRELESS DEVICES: Setup a Logitech Unifying M705 Mouse and K780 Keyboard. A bit of a pain to set it up, but now working. The K780 has buttons to select between up to 3 computer. Comment: As far as I know, other non unifying wireless bluetooth models probably won’t work. Tip: Setup Both the keyboard & mouse on a single Unifying chip. CABELING: Since the KVM’s cables are not replaceable, had to get extender cables to reach one of my computers. So check your distances and allow at least an extra 6 for cable management. Trackpads don’t seem to work with a KVM switch due to the way they are designed.

This works well and does the job of switching peripherals between two machines. No issues using it with Linux. It’s a bit annoying that on the cable that hooks up to the computer, the audio input is attached to one of the USB inputs with a very short cable, making it so they have to be plugged in on the same side of the computer. I needed to plug the USB into a port on the left side of my laptop while the audio jack is on the right side of my laptop. This was not possible with this switch. I had to buy a 3.5mm extender cable for the audio jack. Very annoying! But other than that it works and does the job it is supposed to.

get everything plugged in, then be sure to turn off keyboard and mouse emulation, or nothing works. also, to toggle those settings the first time, you need to plug your keyboard into the mouse USB port so it can be recognized. then toggle enumeration for mouse and keyboard to off, then switch the keyboard back to the right USB port and plug your mouse / graphics tablet in. using mine with a hp25es monitor, standard Apple USB keyboard (with numpad) and a Wacom Intuous tablet connected to an iMac Pro and a 16 MacBook Pro with no issues so far, though I feel like higher-end powered switches would give better performance.

Works well for my 2014 Mac Mini and 2019 Macbook Pro (both on Big Sur). It wasn’t super obvious from reading the product description that all USB cables must be plugged in, but perhaps that was just my understanding miss, and quickly resolved with a USB C hub that I had lying around. My Bluetooth mouse (Jelly Comb MV09E) worked upon plugging in, but was extremely lagged. I needed to scrounge a wired Windows keyboard with Scroll Lock to disable mouse emulation ([Scroll Lock][Scroll Lock] in quick succession, wait for keyboard light to blink, [m][ENTER]) but once that was done, works like a charm! Helpful hint: use [Scroll Lock][Scroll Lock] (wait for keyboard light to blink) [F4][ENTER] to print out the KVM settings and determine what is enabled/disabled. I have a wireless BT Mac keyboard, so I can’t speak to the keyboard functionality (still looking for a BT 5.0 Mac-compatible dongle, but that’s another story).
