The black 16′ Pearstone USB 3.0 Extension Cable with Booster features active electronics that boost the USB signal to prevent data loss, allowing you to connect your USB-enabled devices over 60′ away (using multiple booster cables, sold separately) and still take advantage of the USB 3.0 SuperSpeed maximum transfer rate of 5Gbps. Without a booster, the USB signal begins to degrade after 15′. If you’re using a USB device that requires full USB power in order to function, make sure to plug the device into a powered USB hub before plugging it into the extension cable.

We’ve got this connected to a PCIe card in the back of a 2010 Mac Pro and routed around to the front of the tower for more easily connected thumb drives. I’ve never tested the bandwidth specifically, but it’s never bottlenecked anything connected to it.

This cable extension slowed my data transfer rate to a crawl! I don’t know what the answer is for cable length but this isn’t it.

I purchased this for my USB 3.0 hub to extend the distance of it. I plugged the hub into the end and my USB devices were detected fine. From my observation speeds are the same with or without the extension cable. The cable also has a decent width to it and feels sturdy.

Hey, they are cables – what’s to say?

So I originally bought this for my desktop to plug in external harddrives without having to balance my hard drive on the desktop since they came with cables less than 1′ long. This cable has worked great for USBs but it didn’t work for my external SSD. It kept causing my comp to freeze when transferring data. Did a straight connection to the SSD and worked flawlessly.

I bought this cable because the one our school’s studio had had been worn down and didn’t maintain a connection. I bought this knowing that I could use it for multiple camera’s for tethering capabilities because of the open ended female port. The Nikon D800 is USB 3.0 compatible with this interface, as well as the Leaf Credo 40 backed medium format camera we also use in the studio. I also own a Nikon D7000 I have used to tether with the extension (mini-USB Pearstone extension cord, and the Male Type B USB extension cord for the Leaf Credo back), and it worked fine in Lightroom and in CaptureOne. I use my portable harddrive cord to connect the Pearstone 3.0 cord to the D800, and it works fine. Some things I think people underestimate about cables are their storage needs. They need to be wrapped up in a non destructive manner so the pins don’t become dislodged from the connectors over time. I feel as though if I take care of this cord it will take care of me. I think it’s a must for anyone planning to do tethering.

I didn’t want to purchase any cable but in the end of purchasing B&H suggested me this cable as a very necessary thing and I purchased it. When I received my package I thought: Why did I purchase this cable? But I understand very soon that Pearstone USB 3.0 Type A Male to Type A Female Extension Cable I can use for connecting HDD 2’5 with my TV. HDD 2’5 have very short cables and I should put under HDD the books or any box that cable can be switch in the TV.

Wished they sold a shorter cable, but it works fine and I left the cable ties on the coil to avoid tangles.
