I have been a IT professional for 2 decades, so I have used many drives from various manufacturers. Western Digital Red Pro drives are the most reliable with the highest MTBF among all the drives.

First off, fast and safe shipping from B&H! I am slowly upgrading the storage capacity in my Drobo 5N (also purchased from B&H years ago). There are a couple of things to note if you will be doing the same: – My original config was 5 x 4TB drives, and I recently started running low on free space. If you want to increase capacity, and all current drives are the same size, you will have to replace TWO drives as mentioned here: http://dashboardhelp.drobo.com/guide/250/en/5N_Adding_Capacity_or_Drives.htm. – At the time my 5N was originally configured, the firmware only supported 16TB total volume size. That said, after replacing 2 of the existing 4TB drives with 2 10TB drives, I was left with unallocated space, which could not be utilized. The only way to take advantage of the added space was to factory-restore the 5N after updating to the latest firmware (which now supports 64TB max volume size). As my 5N is used purely for backup, it wasn’t a problem factory-restoring and copying everything over again. Otherwise, you will need to back up everything on the Drobo before restoring.

I have three of these drives in my Synology NAS, and they seem to work just fine. I store my video footage on these. Pricey? Yes. But my video work pays for my house, so I have to have reliable gear.

Just what I needed to change an aging computer into a Linux powered NAS. It’s a little noisy, and seems to make a random clunk noise every 15 seconds, but this is exactly the same as the other 3 RED drives I own, so I don’t think it’s a problem with the drive.

I wanted a larger drive for my Drobo 5N and this one was recommended by Drobo as an excellent choice. Easy install and now I have 8TB more storage.

I installed these 6 TB drives in a Synology DS1815+ . They operate quietly , low themperature , and are fast ( I get up to 125 MB/s with my setup). The 5 years warranty is a plus. They are more cost effective ways to store large amount of data , but at my acceptable risk level, these drives provide the best solution I could find today .

This is the second one I have purchased for my NAS system. Great quality and compatability .

How can I complain? These 10 TB Pro drives were on sale for the same price as 8TB Pro drives on sale! And, yes, they are good drives. I have been populating all of my NAS’s with WD Reds, Red Pluses, and Red Pros for years.

The drive is fast but noisy as compared to the WD 2tb it replaced.

Works as expected and received quickly. Great additional storage for Drobo.

I’ve just upgraded two 10TB Red Pro HD’s to 16TB Red Pro’s in my NAS because I was running out of space. I ran the disks through two complete surface tests with no errors before putting them in my NAS. I haven’t had them long enough to speak to their durability, but based on my experience with my 10TB Red Pros I expect them to be around a long time.

Added two 6TB RED 7200 RPM WD drives to our NAS. It was second set setup in RAID-1 format. Work, very well. No issues. Good response, and very easy to install. Would recommend anytime.

I’ve tested the standard red against the PRO- worth the added cost if performance is critical to your requirements

Ordered these bad boys for my Synology DS920 and I couldn’t be happier. I prefer WD Red Pro drives to the regular Reds, because they have a longer warranty (5 years). And their performance (read-write speeds) is really great too.

Using 5 of these drives in a Drobo 5DT storage unit using RAID 5. Installed easily and all 5 worked right out of the box, and they run very quietly. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that they are expensive.

Ordered four for use in an OWC ThunderBay 4 / TB2 enclosure. Intent was to use all 4 in a SoftRAID-based RAID 5 setup. Attempted to mount all four drives: One arrived DOA, would not mount. One would mount, but not initialize in SoftRAID or Disk Utility. Of the two that successfully mounted and initialized, one failed certification in SoftRAID after a few minutes. I’ve had nothing but good results in the past with WD drives and with OWC enclosures – all ordered from other vendors. I suspect B&H’s usual damage-prone shipping methods are to blame. Sending these all back and ordering from a more reliable vendor.

I ended up cancelling this order and going with the larger 6TB drives instead.

I have used several brands, and I trust my critical workloads to WD. These drives perform really well, and I have never had one fail. This is my go to drive for home and enterprise use.
