Designed for a variety of computing applications like gaming, HD media playback, creative software, and more, the 1TB Blue 3D NAND SATA III 2.5″ Internal SSD from WD is verified for use with a wide range of desktop and laptop computers with a 2.5″ / 7mm drive bay for faster system boots, application responses, and transfer speeds. This SSD operates with a lower average active power draw of 60mW and features a storage capacity of up to 1TB, a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, sequential write speeds of up to 530 MB/s, sequential read speeds of up to 560 MB/s, random writes of up to 84,000 IOPS, and random reads of up to 95,000 IOPS. Also employed is 1.75 million hours MTTF (mean time to failure) and an endurance rating (lifetime writes) of 400 TBW (terabytes written).
With solid-state drive technology, you benefit from load and access times for your files and programs that are faster than a conventional 7200 rpm hard drive. As SSDs have no moving parts, they are also more durable than traditional hard drives and are better protected against damage from drops and bumps. Having no moving parts also means that SSDs receive less wear and tear, as there are no read or write heads for the drive media to come into contact with. SSDs also help to deliver improved battery life and cooler operating temperatures. Protection is provided by a limited 5-year warranty.

I own a couple of these for use with an Atomos Ninja V monitor, and they work great. No issues at all. A lot cheaper for recording video than buying large memory cards for the camera!

I have a home digital music studio. It requires a fast drive to prevent latency when writing a song, and to perform various tasks. Previously I was using a 7200 rpm 1TB hard drive. I decided to upgrade to a solid state disk. I chose the Western Digital SSD 1TB Blue drive for the replacement. Wow, what an improvement. It is at least 5-6 times faster than my old hard drive. Windows and all other programs load very fast. It is quiet and uses less power to operate. I have used Western Digital products in the past, and they are very reliable. I am very satisfied with my purchase. As usual, B&H Photo got the product to me in record speed.

I am using this as a replacement drive that failed earlier. The WD Blue seems to get good reviews and all in working fine in my external drive.

I’m using these as storage for raw digital movie footage. I connect via FireWire to my Mac using a Voyager device. System is perfect. The initial formatting takes just a minute. Then it’s copy/paste. I did not use any of the software that came with the drive.

We got the 500GB version to upgrade an ACER Laptop which originally came with a popular configuration of 128GB Lite-on M.2 SSD plus a 1TB spinning hard drive (HDD). The system worked great, yet after a year or two we needed more SSD capacity for programs and games. We already had installed a WD Blue 3D 500GB 2.5-inch SSD in a PC so we knew it’s a very good drive. Now, the M.2 version is doing a great job in our laptop, with faster Write speeds than the previous 128GB drive ever had. Using a utility app called Hardware Monitor (free from CPUID.com website) we monitor temperatures of the cpu, gpu, and drives. The WD 3d Blue idles around 28 C. – 30 C., and if I run it hard for a while the temperature maxes out around 46 – 48 C. Note the highlighted line in the attached photo. The other photo shows Read and Write speeds which are a little bit limited by the laptop’s basic motherboard design yet plenty fast enough to provide quick and snappy performance.

There are not a ton of choices in the high capacity 9mm 2.5 drive market. I’m using this in my now quite old Drobo Mini to replace a failing drive. I’ve sworn off of the other major brand of drives since seeing a rash of failures when I worked in enterprise computing. Not saying WD drives never fail. The drive this is replacing is WD. However I’ve never seen as many failures of WD drives as ‘that brand’. I just wish they had larger than 2TB capacity in this form factor.

Bought this to replace a traditional HDD, in use with a laptop purchased 2012. (The particular laptop is a truly robust product, amenable to updating. So I can’t speak for all users of older computers.) Amazing improvement in speed and efficiency on all programs, even without other updates to the computer. Waste heat is also noticeably less (fan doesn’t have to run as much). Price is great, and B&H’s price is remarkable.

Replaced a HHD with this SSD and used the WD Acronis software to clone the drive. It worked perfectly. New drive booted up 3 to 4 times faster than the old drive. Apps load much faster also! To do the cloning you need a Sata to USB cable to use with the Acronis software. All very user friendly. You will also need an adapter to use this 2.5 in a 3.5 slot but they are inexpensive.

Installed in a VAIO laptop. I outgrew the capacity of the 500GB drive that came with the laptop. Easy to install new drive. I had trouble restoring from a backup of the old drive. I finally purchased a USB to SATA cable by Apricorn with software to copy from old to new drive.

Best drive for the OWC Thunderbolt Raid enclosures. I use the Red drives in my Synologies but tech support at OWC says there is problems with them (and the Green drives) in their raid enclosure and suggested the Blues if I wanted to stay with WD (with I did). The system has been running flawless for 2 weeks so far and the speed is great! As a bonus they are about $20 each less than the Red drives. I bought 2 for my OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual enclosure.

I chose to do a cloning process with this SSD instead of a clean install and it went great. No problems so far and my overall speeds are about 2-3 times faster than with my regular HDD!
