Designed for beginners, the black da Vinci Mini 3D Printer from XYZprinting is 30% smaller than the da Vinci Jr. 1.0, yet features the same open and non-heated aluminum print bed, 5.9 x 5.9 x 5.9" build volume, 100-400-micron layer resolution, and the ability to utilize 1.75mm PLA filaments. It has been built using Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) technology, is equipped with a single extruder nozzle that has a diameter of 400 microns (0.4mm), and users may print their compatible STL, 3MF, and proprietary XYZ (3W) files using wired USB 2.0 connectivity or 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi.
To keep things running smoothly, the da Vinci Mini 3D Printer uses auto-calibration, while an LED status indicator serves to indicate various system states. Supported operating systems include Windows 7 and above, as well as Mac OS X 10.8 and above. When used under Windows, 32/64-bit operating systems with 4GB or more RAM are supported, while use with a Mac requires a 64-bit system with 4GB or more RAM. Free XYZmaker 3D modeling software is also available as a download, as are over 4500 3D models from the XYZ 3D Gallery.

Out of the box great performance, even better once my 10year old and I educated ourselves with the finer details of printing and settings adjustable within the XYZ suite software. I highly recommend this product purchased at B&H as a high quality entry level introduction into 3D printing. B&H processed my order quickly and it was shipped in time for my sons birthday for free at the best price advertised on the internet for a new Davinci Mini W .

Buyer beware. Our printer stopped functioning at 45 days, just outside the 30 day warranty. While they did repair it, they made us pay for the return shipping, which really stung having just gotten it. That they were unwilling to even consider sending us a shipping label shows they really don’t stand behind their product.

This 3D printer is affordable & very easy to use. It is about the size of a sewing machine & weighs about the same. I use the printer for my hobby – Model Railroading. This printer allows me to design & 3D print custom buildings & other items that would not be available as a commercial kit. I was able to quickly master the free design software (XYZ Maker) that the manufacturer provides via download from their site. This software allowed me to custom design the N-scale (1:160) stockyard that is shown in the picture. Only 1/3 of the entire stockyard is shown (it will be 5-1/2 ft long & 4-1/4 inches deep) and the 3D printed parts for the entire project will cost about $10-12 since the PLA filament ends up costing about $0.23 per meter.

I purchased the daVinci Mini W about 5 months ago. The printer itself looks great and it does print well… when it wants to! The only thing I don?t like is the cartridges have a NFC tag in them so if you don?t buy their filament the printer won?t work! Overall it?s a good printer for the price.

Every time I get frustrated with my printer, I just have to go back and remember how little I paid for it. It’s a very good first printer with some clear disadvantages. Pros: -Auto-bed leveling works well. -Hides the dozens of settings that a higher level printer offers, that would drive a beginner crazy. -Print quality is good and sometimes very good for this price point. -The NFC chip for each spool helps keeping track of how much filament is left easy. -Following a few best practices results in few failed prints (i.e. blue painters tape, pre-heating the bed a little bit, slow head movement, 200C extruder temp, keeping in a warm room, preventing air movement around the print, etc.). Cons: -Wifi connection is unreliable. Most often it’s spotty, but sometimes it works. -The software is TERRIBLE!!! It hangs pretty regularly and if you initially connect via wifi and then switch to USB (or vise versa), the software freaks out and you have to restart it. It’s only good for scaling a model up/down and running the print. Nothing else works well. -I have watched their videos and still I simply cannot figure out how to print from 3D Builder, which is a better program in all respects. -Being locked into XYZ for filament isn’t a problem regarding price, but it’s a big problem regarding quality. The 100m spool that came with the printer was great. Their “tough” PLA is brittle and temperature sensitive. Their clear PLA’s seem to be even more temperature sensitive but I haven’t had enough time with them to be sure. All in all, I’m happy with this printer and I would recommend it to any beginner since it would reduce your losses if you get bored with 3D printing and stop playing with it. However, based on the challenges I’ve had with it (especially the software and wifi), I know my next printer WILL NOT be an XYZ.

Hooked right up to WiFi and started printing. It has printed every thing I have thrown at it without a hitch. WiFi is very nice and has been reliable. Software is easy to use (online videos if needed). Overall: Prints like a champ, very well made.
