Like: Clean look. Slim footprint. Clear, stable imaging for their size. Good dynamics for size. Meh: Treble is unsatisfyingly rolled off far too low in the range (there’s no separate tweeter). Makes music sound a little boxy. Bottom line: it’s perfectly serviceable as an all-purpose computer speaker. For needs weighted toward music, look at other options.

Bought these for my home/remote editing setup with HS7s being my main monitors at work and wanting some consistency. Not very bassy if that’s what you’re after, but give a decent neutral sound which is what I need to mix with.

Without any parametric equalization the sound was too strong in the lower frequencies; however, I suffer high-frequency hearing loss. So I merely adjusted the frequency response in my PC’s sound card output settings and Voila! Great sound for desktop speakers!! One star off, though, for the cost as there are other systems that may be just as good for substantially less.

The louder the volume is the better they sound. Would be nice to have better low volume quality

The NX-50’s are being used as desktop speakers for my MacBook Pro. They have a nice full sound and deliver good rich mid-range with a slight emphasis on the lower frequencies – providing a decent low end response for a small speaker. An attractive speaker that has a quality look, feel, and sound.

After years of using inexpensive speakers with mediocre sound, I wanted some good speakers. Two small speakers that can fit on my desk, and don’t come with a silly subwoofer. I tried a set of Creative speakers that sounded good, but the combination volume dial-power switch broke after a handful of uses. My 10-year-old cheap Logitech speakers the Creatives replaced had a separate power switch, so that became a requirement. These Yamahas have a separate power switch. They are well-made. The speaker grilles are metal. Most importantly, these Yamahas sound fantastic. They get plenty loud for any audio you would be playing on your computer. These speakers cost more than many others, but they are definitely worth the price.

First of all, they look good. The sound is really awesome; I’m no audiophile but they are way above and beyond what I think of as computer speakers. I like the headphone jack in the front; I know that sort of defeats the purpose of having speakers in the first place, but the speakers are close to me and my PC is not– so it is handy regardless. Also the volume control works on the headphones. Plus it has two audio inputs; I haven’t tried it yet because I haven’t purchased the cable yet, but in theory I should be able to connect both my home and work computer at the same time and get the mixed audio.
