With the ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 from Lenovo, you can connect a variety of peripherals directly to your ThinkPad laptop and other USB Type-C/Thunderbolt 3 enabled devices. This dock connects to your compatible host system using a Thunderbolt 3 port, and is built with a variety of other video inputs, including two HDMI outputs and two DisplayPort outputs that support up to three Ultra HD 4K displays.
Accompanying the video inputs, you will find a single Thunderbolt 3 port that supports the 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2 standard. If that’s not enough, this dock comes equipped with five 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A ports, one of which supports always-on charging.
The ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 has a single Gigabit Ethernet port, 3.5mm combination stereo/mic jack, and security lock slot. This dock comes with a 135W power adapter, a power cord, and a Thunderbolt 3 cable. Furthermore, this dock is compatible with Windows 10 and 7 operating systems.

Able to power 2 27 inch monitors via DP and have all my wireless accessories attached. I have a Thinkpad e15 Gen2 that has thunderbolt 4, but works fine with this dock with thunderbolt 3. Enough passthrough to keep my laptop full all the time. No software to install or weird glitches. Get this instead of Dell.

DOES THE JOB. COULD BE A DROP BETTER IN DESIGN, AND THE PLUG IS CONFUSING WHEN SETTING UP (THERE ARE 2 DIFFERENT AC INPUTS ON THE DOCK FOR 2 DIFFERENT THINGS, WHO WOULDA THUNK)

Despite reading a few negative reviews I decided to purchase this dock. A few months into owning, the HDMI ports will not output signal. Some of the reviews I read also said they had issues with this. Contacted support and they refuse to help since I had non-Lenovo monitors connected to the dock. According to their customer support rep, the moment you connect any non-Lenovo device to their products, the warranty is void. So if you connect a Logitech mouse to your thinkpad, they might not honor the warranty.

This Thunderbolt 3 Gen 2 dock is a perfect accessory for the Lenovo X-1 Carbon Gen 7, 8 and the X-1 Yoga with thunderbolt ports. The dock allows laptops to connect to 4K monitors at 60 HZ through either a DP to DP cable or an HDMI 2.0 cable where the laptop has the correct HDMI specification. I have seen terrible reports on these docks, but have used them now for many years. YOU NEED TO INSTALL THE LATEST THUNDERBOLT SOFTWARE AND FIRMWARE OR THEY WILL NOT WORK CORRECTLY. If you install the latest software , the dock is a dream to use. I now have only one thunderbolt cable connected to my Lenovo X-1 Carbon 8 that has all of the accessories and charges the laptop. Going to a meeting is as easy as unplugging one cable and having a fully charged laptop.

This would be a very nifty little device if it had Thunderbolt 2 connectors as well. I can’t imagine why they would make a box that has all these other connectors, but leaving out the most useful one. Seems to me they should have thought of this.

We bought 5 of these bad boys to replace our original 5 docking stations – the biggest advantage of these being that they charge the laptop via the Thunderbolt-3 / USB-C cable – the same cable that everything else runs through (Ethernet, audio, dual-monitors, etc.) I’m pretty seasoned when it comes to computer tech, and the fact that all that digital & charging goodiness can all be done in one tin cable now blows my mind. Thanks!
