Out of the box speed is 110 MBS. Bought my second one but I don’t know how it would work for gaming being slower than others

I have to format to NTFS in order to download my Xbox/Steam games onto there. Everytime I try, it says that it was formatted unsuccessfully.

4.5 stars for build 5 stars for value 3.5 for speed Also has that annoying Western Digital ability to put itself to sleep. Using on a Mac for media archives (lots of files varying in size KB up to 100GB . Formatted for APFS and HFS but similar speed (APFS slightly faster write times.) If you want something faster get the newer G-Drives/Sandisk Pro USB-C drives. if you want something sturdy, a solid external that will probably last awhile, and I guess X-Box or whatever, then this is a good buy.

I’ve had this drive for less than a year but I used it regularly. When in use it lags immensely to the point where I would get dropped from games at least once a week. Recently it fell from the couch (2.5 feet?) onto a rug on a carpet (all the padding) and now it is unrecognizable to the PC. I was already frustrated, but now I’m disappointed as well. I won’t be replacing it with another WD; I’ll be looking for a drive with a much faster RW speed and more reliable performance.

I needed a good large capacity external HD for data backup. The WD_Black 5TB P10 for me was an excellent choice. I formatted it as NTFS with a 4K cluster size, as recommended by tech websites, since I only use Windows. Even though it is named as a Game Drive it is really JUST a HD that can be used for anything a HD is used for. Also, love paying with B&H Payboo and saving the tax.
