Add 2TB of USB 3.0 cloud storage to your Windows, Mac, iOS, or Android device with the My Cloud Home 2TB 1-Bay Personal Cloud NAS Server from WD. The My Cloud Home provides a one-stop solution for saving digital content, backing up photos and videos on your phone, and wirelessly backing up and syncing your Windows and Mac computers with cloud accounts. This personal storage device plugs directly into your Wi-Fi router using its Gigabit Ethernet port so you can access, upload, and share photos and videos using the My Cloud Home apps for mobile, desktop, and web platforms, as well as stream videos using Plex Media Server. Using the USB 3.0 Type-A port, you’ll be able to import photos, videos, music, documents, and more from other devices, such as USB flash drives and external hard drives.
This NAS is powered by a 1.4 GHz Realtek RTD1295PB-CG A53 Quad-Core processor and 1GB of DDR3L RAM. It operates on 90-260 VAC at 47-63 Hz and includes an Ethernet cable and an AC adapter. It is compatible with Windows 10, 8.1, 8, and 7, macOS Sierra (10.12), El Capitan (10.11), Yosemite (10.10), iOS 9 and 10, and Android KitKat (4.4), Lollipop (5.x), Marshmallow (6.0), and Nougat (7.x).

I am very disappointed that I bought this less than a year ago solely for using it as a Plex Media server and now I find that it is useless. It no longer works with Plex because from what I understand it needs a server update. I can see on the forums that this has been brought to WD’s attention with no response whatsoever. I guess I can use it for door stop? What a waste of money!!

The product works great but very difficult to set up. No instructions and I had to call the help desk twice to learn how to transfer pictures to the new drive

I have 11 of the WD My Cloud 2 to 8TB NAS to store my shoots on . I simply map a drive and copy the shoot files to the drive, Very simple. I tried this with WD My Cloud Home,it fails after 50 to 150GB with an IO error. It erases all he files when the device is rebooted. Tried this three times with varying failure points 60, 70 and 145GB of file transferred. The old My Cloud NAS work very well. Called WD product support. The bottom line is this device is not intended to be used in this manner. It is intended to upload and down load a few pictures form a smart device over the external network. For people who use DLNA, this device does not support it.

This device has 2 completely distinct personalities: 1) Cloud accessible storage (even if you want to move local files to it, they go through the internet). 2) Local storage used for the time machine backup. Not cloud accessible. I’m just using the later and am very happy with it. It took a little bit to understand the box because the above is not documented anywhere, but once set up it has been working flawlessly for a few weeks now. Another note, the box has a fan and I was concerned about the noise level because it sits under a couch in our living room (the Time Capsule it is replacing was completely silent). This box is effectively completely silent as well despite the fan, so I am very happy with that. Giving it a four stars only because a good architectural overview of the box is missing and would have saved me time in figuring the 2 personalities of the box and how to set it up as a time capsule.

This was offered to me in the trade in program, due to hackers breached previous model. This is apparently not a NAS. Meaning its not a replacement for my previous product. There is no way to mirror the My cloud home to another my cloud home. No automatic backup, no RAID1. I have to return them.

This is not NAS. It does not support FTP, nor SSH, both of which were in the older My Cloud line. SMB can access only the Public space, not the private space used by the DLNA server. The Android app provides file upload of only photo and video files, and does not even display the file name – only an image. You cant identify video file from the image displayed.

Great surprise! I was thinking about backup and it’s much more! You can connect remote and have a online disc. It was what I always lock for!!!!

Did *some* research before purchasing – somehow managed to fall under the impression that I could use this device to store media files and stream them to my smart TV/chromecast and use the device as a DNLA server. Didn’t get very far – can’t really be bothered explaining the myriad ways in which the product and experience are deeply flawed. Suffice it to say: DO NOT BUY THIS – it’s GARBAGE!

I purchased the My Cloud Home under the My Book Live Trade in Program. After using it for a couple of weeks I believe the product lacks important features that limit it’s usefulness. Unlike the My Book Live, it lacks a “Dashboard” , severely limiting the user’s ability to customize it to suit their needs. Instead it requires the user to login on a WD webpage which provides minimal settings options while also raising a number of security/privacy concerns. Unlike the My Book Live, it also lacks a “standby” feature. The noise from the spinning mechanical hard drive is a constant distraction. Finally, if you decide to shutdown the unit you need to pull and re-insert the power cord from the back of the unit to restart it. An on/off switch would make things much easier. After restart, I’ve experienced instances where my PC has difficulty re-discovering the drive even with the suggested apps installed.

I has an Airport Extreme – super easy for me to set up, but when I upgraded my modem, the Extreme was not compatible. Got this WD My Cloud Home and backups occur in the background like they did with the Extreme. From the reviews, perhaps not ideal for more accessing files remotely, etc., but I’m very happy with it for backups.

After 6 months with a WD MyCloud Home 4TB, I am just about to give up on a budget home NAS to store my files on. This WD device is by far the worst of all solutions I have tried so far. It transfers files incredibly slowly on my home LAN, even when connected through Gigabyte LAN, often so slowly that opening a folder from the MyCloud in Windows explorer will cause win explorer to hang/freeze up. Trying to browse thumbnails of pics to retrieve any specific file will give any sane person a hefty anxiety attack, as getting thumbnails to display takes minutes in a folder with less than 1000 pics. Don’t understand why we have to log on thru WD Discovery and the web, just to access a storage device standing 2 meters away from me… Privacy? Forget it! Also incredibly annoying that there is NO WAY of connecting directly to device to achieve higher speeds when accessing the storage locdally. On top of it all, the device itself never rests, and gives off hdd read/write sounds constantly 24/7, so having it anywhere within earshot will constantly annoy you. I wonder what it is reading and writing over there on its own, when I haven’t used it for over 12 hrs…? Buy something else!

I spent countless hours uploading videos to this device and it just died without warning. Says offline. Troubleshooting in the manual is useless. Flashing light has been blinking for a few hours and I fear I lost all of my data.

You should know before buying this that the USB port, that is supposed to allow you to connect an external drive directly to the My cloud home and access it remotely (which was the selling point for me) only recognizes a very limited number of external drive models. So if you were thinking that you would be able to add to the capability of this NAS, or simply to backup your data faster by connecting directly an external drive that you already own to the my cloud home, think again.
