Ubiquiti has a great line of network products that are perfect for small business, or even home. The UAP-AC-PRO is an incredible access point, and has a great many features not found on other brands such as Linksys, D-Link, etc. It will work great connected to any router by any vendor, but works best when it’s part of a Ubiquiti/Unifi network gateway/switch system. In this configuration, with 2 or more AP’s, the system automatically handles roaming throughout the facility, seamlessly transferring wifi connection to the strongest signal, with no drops in the connection. I’ve spent a lot of money on other brands over the years – Ubiquiti is a much more powerful solution for only a little bit more money.

I bought 2 packs of these for a total of 10 units for use at our church. We aren’t a large group, but it’s old an concrete/brick building and wireless doesn’t travel very far. Setup was very easy to do, and configuring/maintaining the the deployment is very easy. I opted to install the UniFi controller software on a Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS VM. Default login was simple: https://serverip/:8443 and from there a guided setup. It automatically found all the UniFi access points that were on our network, guided through setting up SSID, security, administrator passwords, etc. Firmware updates to the APs is a snap! Once up and going with the basics, it was easy to add an additional guest SSID on a separate VLAN, configure secuirty, and isolate clients from each other with a click of a button. One more screen and you’ve configured bandwidth limitations for the group as well. The only concerns I have is with some of the auto settings with AP radio configuration. It seems to want to allow neighboring APs to share the same channel My understanding of best practice is you would try to minimize this. I ran RF Scan so it could identify the interferences, and after that it seemed more logical channel selection… for a couple of days, then things started jumping back to what I think would be conflicting. Another thing worth mention is that by default, the 2.4GHz channel is only 20MHz wide, and the 5GHz band is a 40MHz channel. This means if you are in need of high thoughput, by default you won’t get it. Not sure the thought process behind this decision by Ubiquiti. I feel the controller software has a reasonable amount of statistics available for the APs, even without the USG capabilities provided by Ubiquit’s other hardware. I can easily identify what APs have a heavy number of clients, which ones aren’t, and adjust power outputs accordingly. You also get a decent number amount of info about individual clients attached to the APs. Good quality, easy to use

I got two UAP-AC-PRO access points along with the US-8-60W switch for our new home. Previously I’ve used an Apple Airport Extreme for WiFi. I am glad I went with Unifi, the control and insight into my network and what devices are using it is amazing, the management is super easy, and I’ve got perfect WiFi coverage now. The price of the switch and two APs was the same as I would have had to pay for a home wifi setup like Orbi, but Unifi is so much better.

Have two of these in my new house. One on the ceiling of the main floor living room, and one on the ceiling of the basement family room. Between the two I have great coverage throughout the entire house, and my devices roam between them without any issues. POE + mounting hardware makes it easy to wall/ceiling mount APs and have wired backhauls without any wires showing for clean installs. Controller software makes it convenient and easy to update firmware, view status, and manage your APs from a single device. Great product. Wouldn’t use anything else in my home.

I am particularly interested in the Guest Portal capability of the product. I was able to setup the Voucher system per instructions without much trouble. The trouble is the stability of the Voucher system. It worked for a while and broke. The 24/7 live chat support is really great – responsive, knowledgeable. The Jury is still out if it can work reliably.

Bought as a trial device before an organization with which I am involved made additional Ubiquiti purchases. Installation couldn’t have been easier, as we downloaded the UniFi control program, installed it on an Ubuntu box (there are also Windows and Mac versions), and then configured the AP. The combination of the two provides lots of information about the performance of the device. You can view its location (if you upload an image for the map–an easy process), an approximation of the coverage being provided, number of clients connected, wireless band utilization at the location… the list is quite comprehensive, and I’ve only touched on a few items here. For those not wanting the full control program, there’s an Android app that will run you through a quick configuration for a single device at home. It’s a bonus that the device is nice looking, as well, especially compared with the numerous cheap router/wireless or stand-alone boxen. Performance has been great on both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, with adequate signal still available over a hundred feet away even with an aluminum-sided building in between the AP and my device. Range in free air is (obviously) even better, and I’ve little doubt that the rated 450ft can be achieved in many situations. Ubiquiti’s pricing is far better than that of many of its competitors for hardware of similar capabilities.Of course, that means you’ll rely on the community for support in most cases, but I’ve found lots of available information published by Ubiquiti and others, so that with a little basic networking knowledge, I think most will be able to handle this (and other Ubiquiti devices) just fine. Our organization liked this well enough to invest in more Ubiquiti equipment, as we build out a more modern network.

I love the look of this access point! It blends right into the rest of my home. The supplied wall mounting equipment allowed for a flush install, with enough room in behind the unit for two ethernet cables. The two ethernet ports was the main reason I went with the UAP-AC-PRO vs. other UniFi access points since it allowed me to pass on the network connection to my Ooma on a counter below. Setup was straight forward, and so far performance has been fantastic. It easily covers all three levels of my house.

This is one of the best choices for building a prosumer home network. Combined with one of Ubiquiti Networks’ wired routers, such as the ERLite-3, you can easily set up a network that mirrors any enterprise/corporate setup, optimally setting your wifi access point away from your wired ethernet cabinet where the routing responsibilities belong. This particular access point has great range and signal strength, with helpful tools for analyzing congestion within the available frequency bands, as well. The 5GHz is actually very usable on these APs as well; my whole house gets a strong signal with very fast throughput on 5GHz using just one of these APs. I can’t say enough good things about this hardware. Ubiquiti nails it on price-performance ratio.

Pros: Incredible range and sensitivity on both the 2.4 and 5ghz bands. Also has the (superior, imo) Atheros chipset onboard, supports true PoE, and gigabit speed ports. Does what it says on the box and looks really nice in operation too. Speeds are phenomenal and noise rejection is impressive considering the jam packed ISM bands in my area. Cons: The controller software is a bit of a pain. I installed it on a very limited space low voltage Linux box, and it chewed up almost all of the available disk because of its insistence on preallocating journal files for MongoDB. Seriously, a big data NoSQL database for a wifi/network controller? However, if you put on a box with plenty of space, this won’t be a problem. They do have a smartphone app that you can use instead of ever setting up the controller, but once you adopt in it into the official controller, the app loses the ability to manage it, even with controller mode enabled. I’m sure they’ll fix this on a later release. Of course, the controller software is really slick, so if you’ve got a spare (or main) machine that you leave on all the time, it’s worth the effort to set it up. Overall: The AP’s performance, features, and aesthetics are all top notch. I would absolutely recommend this to anybody who wants a totally awesome wifi setup that blows consumer grade gear out of the water, as long as they don’t mind getting their hands a little dirty setting it up.

We moved from SonicPoints to the Unify AC access Point for our church. There were some mysterious issues with connectivity at first, but when we moved off of our older Cisco switches to Unify switches that all cleared up. So far 150 days of up time and hundreds of guest users later and they are still working solid.

I have been purchasing these for client for the past 5 years or more. They are inexpensive enough to appeal to small business clients and have all the enterprise functions you might need. They handle tons of clients, mesh well with themselves, and the network will self-heal if a wired link goes down.
